Buddha Dhordenma
Buddha Dordenma – The Giant Guardian of Thimphu
Perched high above the serene valley of Thimphu, the majestic Buddha Dordenma stands as one of the most iconic landmarks in Bhutan. Overlooking the city from Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park, this colossal statue is not just a visual masterpiece but also a symbol of peace, spirituality, and national pride.
A Monument of Grandeur and Faith
Completed in 2015 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Buddha Dordenma rises to a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. The statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold, radiating a golden glow that can be seen from almost anywhere in Thimphu.
Inside the statue are over 100,000 smaller Buddha statues, each crafted with devotion, symbolizing the spread of peace and compassion across the world.
